my lore with abc
i got into acid black cherry properly in... february 2025! so 2 months ago. and it already has a shrine on my site which tells you all you need to know. that being said, i've actually been listening to him a little bit since 2019. and by a little bit i mean one single song that was a cover and i also didn't care for it much at the time. the cover in question was of the checkers' julia ni shoushin. at the time, only his cover was available on spotify, so i was stuck with it! i say stuck, but it was kind of like a blessing. while it took me another 5 years to go "hm maybe i should check out more of this guy's work. i like his voice." (sidenote i thought yasu was a woman for a little bit)
youre thinking "dude light do you suck at math? that's 6 years." well, i am actually lowkey dyslexic with numbers, so yes, i do suck at math, but it's actually correct. i got into abc this year, but i started to explore more of his music last year in 2024. on a whim, while looping his cover of julia ni shoushin 14 times in one day, i decided to check out another song of his... Black Cherry. simply put, that was it for me. boom. 13 scrobbles in one day. 2 days later? 17. i was obsessed with it. but oddly enough, the rest of black list didn't stick with me at the time. typically it takes me 2 listens to an album to fully appreciate it, and i didn't do that, so unfortunately i just stuck to black cherry for the time being...
and then in january, it suddenly disappeared from streaming services...! i was so sad. but at the same time, i was kinda used to japanese music i liked getting randomly taken down and put back up like that, so it wasn't anything new. so when it came back a little bit later, i got excited. but then i saw the little "2025 ver." next to it. and i was like, "ooh, what is this?" so i googled a little and found out they remastered/remixed a bunch of abc's music to celebrate yasu's 50th birthday. so i gave black list another listen!
...it's on my favorite albums page now.
i won't elaborate too much on this part because i'll talk more about the new versions on their respective album entries on that page, but this was the thing i needed to push me down into abc insanity land. i couldn't believe how long i was sleeping on such peak. every album was just so good.
but enough about the albums. i want to gush about yasu. he's so cool... his stage presence is incredible. his little dances are so cute and moe... i watched the black list tour dvd, and i love how much fun he has onstage. i wish i could have been there instead of being 6...
but it's not just his stage presence that's incredible. his voice is also just so beautiful... i love the live versions just as much as the studio versions. there's just something about the way he says certain words, or how he harmonizes another thing, or just... you know. i'm dickriding. but it's justified here! he's got a great voice. his cover of buck-tick's romanesque was beautiful. i love the original but i think i'm biased towards abc's cover... just because of yasu (well also i like the more intense instrumentals).
he's such a funny guy. i like how nasty he is on stage. he says stuff like "call me erotic more" or "i think i'm gonna graduate from ero. (pause) AND I THINK IM GONNA GET SUPER EROTIC FROM HERE ON OUT!!!!!!!!" like. that's why he's the goat. also him getting asked whats his favorite position onstage and he goes "HEY!!!!!!! ... missionary." like 1) truth and 2) funny.
so with that i'm going to leave you with my favorite yasu gifs. i'll add more as i watch more live dvds. also there are a few from jda lives so it's not. 100% abc so dont kill me but yeah i just like them a lot. click here to have this box magically transform into yasu gifs:

about abc
acid black cherry is the solo project of janne da arc's vocalist, yasu! he debuted in 2007 after the band went on hiatus.
acid black cherry's concept is "ero". in japanese, the letters a b and c mean kissing, petting, and sex, respectively. this is because yasu is awesome. i do not dickride lightly.
